From June 13th - 15th, 2008, THT
volunteers Elizabeth King, Gerald Couzens, Steve Wolfe, Joseph Tomei, George
Mano, Roger Palmer, Ronald Klein, Peter Wanner, and Pat Dougherty put on a
conference at Hue University, in Hue, Vietnam. This was the third annual
Teachers Helping Teachers/University of Hue program, and it was the largest
yet, with 200 high school and junior high school teachers in attendance from
all over Vietnam.
The conference theme
was Teaching Techniques for the 21st
Century. With this theme in
mind, our nine THT presenters gave a practical mix of theory and application to
the attendees. When asked in an
Internet survey about what they enjoyed about the program, one of the
Vietnamese teachers had this to say:
There were many interesting topics that are helpful to my
teaching. Also, the presenters were very whole-hearted.
Dr. Tran Van Phuoc to be JALT Balsamo Asian Scholar 2008
Dr. Tran Van Phuoc, the
Rector of the College of Foreign Languages of Hue University was nominated for
the position of JALT Balsamo Asian Scholar 2008 by THT. His nomination was accepted, and he
will be joining us at JALT2008 in Tokyo from October 31 - November 3 and then
will be visiting local Chapters of JALT for approximately ten days after the
conference finishes.
At
JALT2008, Dr. Tran Van Phuoc will make two presentations, CLT
in ELT in Vietnam schools:
